The name comes from the tree’s appearance after bushfires, whereby the rough bark at the tree base (butt) is usually charred black. We source our West Australian Blackbutt from the South West.
West Australian Blackbutt can be described as having a heartwood that is yellowish-brown, and sapwood that is sufficiently paler to be distinguishable. The grain is usually straight with gum veins with even texture making it highly appealing for interior use applications.
